About the event

Tonight will be a grand night full of toasting, stories, laughter, memories, and victories (Gagimarjos!). The Keipi (sometimes called a Supra, we will explain), is the place where heaven is united with earth, where all the potential of the unseen above, is united with the present beauty of the material below.

The Keipi table is where all good things are united just as they should be. Sounds like a lot, we know. But take a whirl and get ready for a table overflowing with Georgian khachapuri, khinkali (dumplings), mstvadi (meat kebabs), and a unique assortment of salads and snacks. Wine will be plentiful and your glass is surely never to go empty (if our melikepe is doing his job!).

There may even be some Georgian brandy and a sudden song or two…

What a seat at the table means for you: You will join a group of sojourners at a long table in our restaurant at Keipi. From the beginning the table will be filled with a selection of khachapuri, salads, and sides spread along the table. If the khachapuri gets too low, we will add more. If the khinkali runs out, we make more. As the salad…you get the picture. The table will quite actually be overflowing with food.

As for wine, we look forward to introducing you to your melikepe. The melikepe has a simple role - to keep everyone's glasses full (wine or otherwise) and make sure the table never runs out of wine. The wine is the shared bond at the table (in the Georgian tradition, the common blood of mankind).

Wine provided for the night will be a white, amber, and red, all Georgian, and all delicious:

  • Guardians Rkatsiteli / White / A crisp and pleasantly aromatic white wine. Gentle acidity with notes of tropical fruits.
  • Dila-O Rkatsiteli-Mtsvane / Amber / A bouquet of melon and cantaloupe aromas thanks to the Mtsvane, good  acidity thanks to Rkatsiteli and lighter softer tannin on the finish due to less time on the skins.
  • Dila-O Saperavi / Red / A lovely dark color, aromas of violets and plum followed by dark  brambly fruits, a touch of black pepper and earthiness on the palette. A  young fresh Georgian qvevri red with finesse.

At the end of the night desserts will be added to the ample amount of food present and no one should leave the table on an empty stomach (unless by choice!).

During the time the food and wine are served and flowing, the Tamada will lead you and everyone at the table through a series of toasts to the themes of life that we all can relate to (see the primer here). At the beginning you may be nervous, but don’t worry! When you are moved to expand on a theme the Tamada offers, your words will be welcome.

It is the whole point of the table, fellowship and communion, where heavy things are talked about lightly, in love. If you’ve come simply to feel a connection to those around you though, your silence will be understood.

Our tables accommodate all those who take a seat.

So relax, come ready for a feast, and be calm in the knowledge that your presence alone already means the world to us.
